Steelers signed S DeShon Elliott to a two-year, $12.5 million extension.
The deal includes $9.21 million in guarantees and appears to be one of the better safety contracts in the league considering the modest annual value. Elliott is now tied to the Steelers through the 2027 season and is coming off a career year, having amassed 108 combined tackles in his first year with the franchise in 2024. Perhaps the deal serves as a springboard for the looming contract negotiations with star linebacker T.J. Watt, who is set to play the 2025 season in the final year of his four-year mega-contract.
Brandon Lowe went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer on Monday, powering the Rays to a lopsided 7-1 victory over the Orioles.
The Rays continue to roll with Lowe leading the charge on Monday night. He took Orioles starter Zach Eflin deep with a 426-foot moonshot to right-center field in the fourth inning to give Tampa Bay a commanding 5-1 lead at the time. It was his 14th long ball of the season and keeps him on pace to get back to the 30-homer threshold for the first time since the 2021 campaign.
HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reports the Magic declined team options for Gary Harris and Cory Joseph as part of the Desmond Bane trade.
The Magic upgraded their perimeter rotation with the Bane trade, which was completed on Sunday. However, the team will have some work to do this summer regarding their depth behind starters Bane and Jalen Suggs. As part of the trade, Orlando declined its team options on Harris (worth $7.5 million) and Joseph ($3.47 million). Both players will be unrestricted free agents on June 30. Neither player logged consistent rotation minutes for the Magic last season, and their exits (if they do not re-sign with Orlando) would not impact fantasy basketball.
Adley Rutschman belted a solo homer on Monday in a blowout loss to the Rays.
There weren’t a lot of positive takeaways for the Orioles during this one-sided affair, but Rutschman managed to sneak a towering blast over the right-field wall in the fourth inning for his eighth big fly of the season. Unfortunately, it represented the lone tally on the night for Baltimore as Ryan Pepiot twirled an impressive eight-inning gem.
Ryan Pepiot recorded a season-high 11 strikeouts and allowed one run over eight innings on Monday in a win over the Orioles.
Pepiot fell just one strikeout shy of matching his career-high in the strikeout department as he authored a masterful performance at extremely hitter-friendly George M. Steinbrenner Field against a fully-stocked Orioles lineup, needing just 98 pitches to navigate eight frames. The 27-year-old righty generated an eye-popping 18 swinging strikes, with nearly half of those coming on his four-seam fastball, to finish with an elite 40 percent CSW. A fourth-inning solo shot from Baltimore franchise cornerstone Adley Rutschman was the lone blemish in this one. He’s allowed three earned runs or fewer in 11 consecutive starts dating back to April 20. He’ll bring a stellar 3.11 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 84/26 K/BB ratio across 89 2/3 innings (15 starts) into a tough home matchup on Saturday against the Tigers.
Zach Eflin was torched for seven runs over five innings on Monday in a loss to the Rays.
