After a scoreless first inning, Vásquez gave up a pair of runs in the second, including a solo homer by Andy Pages. Pages then took him deep again in the fourth for his second solo homer. Vásquez would toss one more inning before ending his day after five at 68 pitches -- 47 strikes. He struck out two. The 26-year-old right-hander will take a 3.70 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and a 43/35 K/BB ratio across 73 innings into a start against the Royals in San Diego on Sunday.

Smith had an incredible day at the plate on Tuesday, starting with a leadoff homer in the second inning. He did it again in the fourth, leading off the frame with a solo blast off JP Sears. He added a single in the fifth and scored before knocking a double to drive in another run in the eighth. After the four-hit day, the 22-year-old outfielder is batting .266/.336/.412 with five homers, 26 runs scored, 26 RBI, and three steals across 220 plate appearances.

Walker drew a walk in the first inning, then took Osvaldo Bido deep for a two-run blast in the fifth inning. He laded added a base hit in the eighth and scored on a double by Cam Smith. The 34-year-old slugger is up to 10 homers while slashing .216/.282/.371 with 35 RBI across 289 plate appearances.

Alexander had given up 12 runs over six innings of relief for the A’s earlier this season before he was released and claimed off waivers by the Astros. Making the start Tuesday, he silenced the Athletics over six scoreless innings before giving up three runs in the seventh. His struck out four. After Tuesday’s effective spot start, the 32-year-old right-hander doesn’t figure to stick around in Houston’s rotation.

Sears struggled out of the gate, walking the bases loaded with two outs before surrendering two runs on a base hit in the first inning. Cam Smith then took him deep to lead off the second. The Astros added two more runs in the fourth on back-to-back solo homers before Sears departed with one out in the frame. The 29-year-old left-hander will take a 5.45 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and a 58/17 K/BB ratio across 76 innings into a start against the Guardians in Sacramento on Sunday.
