2024 Player Outlook
2023 was a lost season for Cousins as he suffered a season ending injury which limited him to just eight games. Through eight games he was solid, completing 69.5% of his passes for 2,331 yards and 18 touchdowns with five interceptions. The 2024 season brings about a change with Cousins leaving Minnesota for the Atlanta Falcons, signing a big free agent deal. Cousins was QB7 in point per game last season and honestly, that feels right for 2024 as well. The Falcons are loaded offensively, even more so than the Vikings with Drake London, Kyle Pitts and Bijan Robinson leading the way while the Falcons also added some blazing speed in Darnell Mooney and Rondale Moore. During his time with the Vikings Cousins per 17 game averages saw him averaging close to 4,500 yards and 33 touchdowns per year. If he comes close to those numbers in 2024, you could be hard pressed to find a better QB at his current ADP.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Kirk Cousins ends up being the Falcons’ backup quarterback in 2025.
As Rapoport adds, “things, of course, can change.” What happens with Cousins is anyone’s guess, and that is perhaps the main takeaway from the report. Cousins wants out, but he will wield his no-trade clause selectively. If the Falcons are unable or unwilling to find a trade partner that suits him, Cousins could end up being a very pricey backup.
Underdog’s James Palmer reports that “it seems more and more likely” Kirk Cousins will wait until Day 2 concludes to waive his no-trade clause.
If multiple quarterbacks come off the board on Thursday, things could shake out differently. Per Palmer, there is a chance Cousins chooses to waive the no-trade clause in time for a Day 2 trade. A large chunk of the 2025 quarterback class could be forced to wait until Friday to have their names called, though, and Cousins has not wavered in his desire to start for an NFL team this year.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports the Browns, Steelers, and Vikings “are the most likely potential suitors” for Falcons QB Kirk Cousins.
“Minnesota, where Cousins played for six seasons, is the least likely of the trio to consummate a deal, and Cousins, who must approve any trade, is not eager to go to a team with a promising young quarterback,” according to The Athletic. Cousins, 37, is owned $45 million for the 2025 season, some of which the Falcons are going to have to eat if they’re going to part ways with the veteran quarterback. Cousins would figure to function as the starter in both Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Cousins could be traded during the first or second round of the NFL Draft, which begins Thursday night in Green Bay.
Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said Kirk Cousins wants to be a starter in 2025.
Cousins surprisingly showed up for the team’s voluntary workouts this week. Morris said he wasn’t sure if Cousins would continue attending, emphasizing that the workouts are voluntary. “I do know he would like to try to be a starter at some point,” Morris said. “That’s definitely been clearly communicated with me and whoever I see an opportunity to talk to. I do know that. The way about that, I’m not sure. But we have to figure those things out. We have to get to that process.” Morris denied a recent ESPN report saying the Falcons would ask a team acquiring Cousins to eat $20 million of the $45 million he’s owed for the 2025 season. Cousins, entering his age-37 season, has a good chance of landing with another QB-needy team during or shortly after the NFL Draft. Michael Penix is locked in as Atlanta’s 2025 starter.
