Garcia was sent down a couple of weeks ago after giving up five runs in five innings. This takes him off the 40-man roster, clearing room for the additions of Trey Wingenter and Chasen Shreve.

It's a bit surprising that García didn't stick around longer this spring after making 16 appearances (eight starts) last year at the big-league level. The 25-year-old righty allowed give runs over five innings (five appearances) this spring in Grapefruit League action. He figures to make it back to Detroit at some point this year.

No word on the exact financial terms yet. García, who is coming off a right shoulder injury, was one of just two arbitration-eligible players that the Tigers had left prior to Friday's salary exchange deadline. He'll continue to function as organizational pitching depth for Detroit.
