Blue Jays placed RHP Alek Manoah on the 60-day injured list.
It’s merely a procedural move since Manoah is still working his way back from last year’s Tommy John surgery and won’t be an option for the Blue Jays until sometime in the second half of the year.
Alek Manoah (elbow) is throwing a bullpen session Friday.
Manoah, 27, will throw off the mound for the first time since June 17 after undergoing a hybrid Tommy John procedure last summer. The 6-foot-6 right-hander is hoping to face hitters by the middle of the 2025 campaign, and he could be an option for the Blue Jays before the season comes to a close.
Blue Jays’ right-hander Alek Manoah (elbow) told Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star that he’s targeting a return to the team’s rotation in August.
The 27-year-old hurler underwent Tommy John surgery back in June, so the chances of him being ready for a return in August seem a bit optimistic. The Jays will undoubtedly play it cautiously in his recovery, and despite the fact that he feels “brand new” it’s unlikely that he winds up logging meaningful innings for the Blue Jays in 2025.
The Blue Jays and RHP Alek Manoah avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.2 million contract.
Manoah is coming off elbow surgery and will likely be out until July or August of 2025. Despite his disastrous last two seasons, the 27-year-old has two more years of arbitration left, so the Blue Jays will hope that the elbow surgery can help Manoah regain some of what made him so great in 2022.
