2025 Player Outlook
Many likely tabbed Vaughn as somewhat of a breakout player in 2024, but that ultimately didn't come to fruition. However, his numbers weren't far off from 2023, though a .297 OBP didn't do fantasy managers any favors. He did manage to post the second-highest barrel rate of his career (9.3%), and while his struggles against breaking pitches did improve slightly, he has yet to have a significant walk rate to boost his value in OBP leagues. I expect Vaughn to be better than last year's .246 average, and his impressive final month of the season might have some fantasy managers thinking Vaughn is more of a value than he really is. Vaughn is a fine target at his current price, especially in leagues that emphasize batting average over OBP, but at his ceiling in 2025, he'll hit .260ish with 25 home runs, but a .245 average and 18-22 home runs is a more reasonable projection.
Player News
Andrew Vaughn went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in an 8-4 win over the Red Sox on Sunday.
Vaughn crushed a 405-foot home run off Liam Hendriks that left the bat at 110.5 mph and gave the White Sox a four-run cushion in the eighth inning. Vaughn now has three home runs and 10 RBI on the season, but is slashing just .152/.193/.291. He’ll need a few more games like this before he climbs back onto the fantasy radar.
Andrew Vaughn clubbed a three-run homer in the opening inning on Tuesday, accounting for all of the White Sox’ offense in a loss to the Athletics.
The White Sox fell behind 3-0 in the first inning of this one, but Vaughn took it upon himself to even the score as he crushed a first-pitch changeup from Jeffrey Springs for a 381-foot (103.2 mph EV) three-run homer. Unfortunately, that would be the extent of the White Sox’ offense in the game. Vaughn finished the night 1-for-4 and is slashing a miserable .123/.180/.263 with two homers and eight RBI on the season.
Andrew Vaughn went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Saturday against the Red Sox.
In a bit of an oddity, the White Sox had three three-strikeout guys today (Vaughn, Nick Maton and Lenyn Sosa) and no one else fanned even once. Vaughn’s final at-bat was the ugliest; with the winning run on first, he swung at four straight pitches from Aroldis Chapman, fouling off the one hittable pitch he did get and missing at three clearly out of the zone. Statcast thinks he’s been extraordinarily unlucky this season — he entered the day with a .111 average and a .222 slugging percentage, compared to a .277 xBA and a .522 xSLG — but he was just bad in this one.
Andrew Vaughn is not in the starting lineup for the White Sox on Wednesday against the Twins.
It’s a routine day off for Vaughn, who has started every game so far this season. Nick Maton will play first base and bat leadoff, with Luis Robert moving to designated hitter and Travis Jankowski getting the start in center field.
