Connor Joe will hit seventh and play first base against the Cubs on Wednesday.
Joe has been a “lefty-killer” in his time in the majors, so he’ll get the start with Matthew Boyd on the bump for the Cubs on Wednesday. Joe should see playing time against southpaws, but that won’t translate into fantasy relevance in redraft formats.
Padres recalled OF Connor Joe from Triple-A El Paso.
Joe provides the Padres with some additional outfield depth with rookie Brandon Lockridge hitting the injured list with a hamstring strain. The 32-year-old posted a .688 OPS with nine homers in 123 games last year for the Pirates. He’s highly unlikely to make a significant impact for fantasy purposes.
Padres signed OF Connor Joe to a one-year, $1 million contract.
It looks like the Padres are taking care of one of their two obvious lineup gaps by setting up a Jason Heyward-Joe platoon in left field. It won’t be glamourous, but it’ll probably get the job done, and most importantly for these Padres, both are coming cheap (Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Joe would make $1 million with a possible extra $1.25 million in incentives). Joe, 32, hit .228/.320/.368 in 416 plate appearances for the Pirates last season. He’s received at least 400 plate appearances each of the last three years, but that should change this season.
Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union Tribune reports that the Padres have agreed to a one-year contract with Connor Joe.
Dennis Lin of The Athletic had reported earlier in the day that the two sides were in the process of finalizing a deal and it looks like they were able to get it done. Financial terms of the contract are not yet available, but it will be a major league contract. Expect the 32-year-old to see time at both first base and in the outfield and to be in the Padres’ lineup against most southpaws.
