Irvin will have a chance to revive his career in the KBO. The 30-year-old’s $1 million deal is the maximum allowed for a first-year foreign player in Korea. Irvin threw 111 innings in 2024 between the Orioles and Twins with a 5.11 ERA.

The Twins threw Irvin into big situations twice after picking up off waivers from the Orioles this month, and it didn’t work out either time. Really, though, it didn’t seem like great judgment using him that way in the first place. He allowed five runs in 3 2/3 innings in his brief Twins career.

Irvin was designated for assignment yesterday after posting a 4.86 ERA in 16 starts and nine relief appearances on the season. The Twins could opt to use him in that same swingman role or perhaps insert him into the starting rotation with rookies David Festa and Zebby Matthews battling consistency issues. We’ll need to see how this pans out over the next few days. Randy Dobnak was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Irvin.
