2025 Player Outlook
Coming off an unprecedented 50-50 season, Ohtani is the driving force of the best offense in baseball. Off-season shoulder surgery and an expected return to pitching at some point in 2025 might slightly lower his offensive ceiling, but there is no reason he shouldn't be the top player on the draft board.

Shohei Ohtani went 3-for-5 with a solo home run on Friday against the Rockies.
Ohtani doubled in the first inning, but was left stranded on the bases. He later led off the top of the fifth with a home run off Kyle Freeland to give the Angels the lead. The 28-year-old star leads baseball with 25 homers to go with a .298/.391/.603 slash line, 59 RBI, and ten steals across 336 plate appearances.
Shohei Ohtani has been selected to the 2023 American League All-Star team as the starting designated hitter.
Ohtani received the most total votes of any junior circuit player in the opening phase of All-Star balloting and automatically qualifies for a starting spot. The 28-year-old two-way superstar, who leads the American League with 24 round-trippers and 58 RBI through 74 games this season, also holds a stellar 3.13 ERA across 15 starts. He'll undoubtedly be the center of attention at T-Mobile Park in Seattle next month.
Shohei Ohtani allowed one run while striking out 12 batters over seven innings on Wednesday in a loss against the Dodgers.
Ohtani appeared to tweak his ankle covering first base early on in this one and appeared to be dealing with some discomfort shortly afterwards. It clearly didn't impact his performance as he authored a dominant performance against a tough Dodgers' lineup, racking up 12 strikeouts over seven frames. He generated a whopping 20 whiffs and tossed 77 of his 101 pitches for strikes. Ohtani was saddled with the tough-luck loss thanks to zero run support from the Angels' offense. The 28-year-old two-way star will take a 3.13 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and a 117/37 K/BB across 89 innings into a start against the White Sox in Anaheim next week.
Shohei Ohtani will start on Wednesday against the Dodgers.
The Angels have decided to skip Jaime Barria's spot in the rotation to have Reid Detmers take the ball for Tuesday's series opener against the Dodgers followed by Ohtani in the series finale. It's a tougher matchup from a fantasy perspective, but the decision enables the two-way fantasy superstar to avoid having to pitch on Friday in Coors Field's high-octane offensive environment.
