Joe Musgrove (elbow) played catch on Monday.
It was Musgrove’s first time throwing since last October’s Tommy John procedure. The 32-year-old righty will miss the entire 2025 campaign, but there’s a chance he’s ready to go at some point in the early stages of next year.
Padres placed RHP Joe Musgrove on the 60-day injured list.
The 32-year-old right-hander is still in the process of recovering from Tommy John surgery and is expected to miss the entire 2025 season, so this was nothing more than a procedural move to free up a spot on the club’s 40-man roster for Gavin Sheets. Musgrove remains under contract with the Padres through the 2027 campaign.
Joe Musgrove had Tommy John surgery on Friday, according to Dennis Lin of the Athletic.
Musgrove won’t pitch at all in 2025. The surgery was performed by Dr. Keith Meister, according to Lin. Musgrove is under contract with the Padres through the 2027 season.
Padres general manager A.J. Preller announced that RHP Joe Musgrove will have Tommy John surgery.
What a blow. The Padres have been one of if not the hottest team in baseball since the start of June, but losing Musgrove for essentially the entirety of their playoff run is certainly a bump in the road for San Diego. For Musgrove himself, the timing as well as the injury itself is brutal. While Preller didn’t provide a timeline, Musgrove won’t pitch at all in 2025.
