2025 Player Outlook

Believe it or not, Buxton has hit 17 or more home runs in each of the last four seasons, but he's played in more than 95 games in just one of those seasons. There's been some pretty crazy fluctuation in his batting average over the last four seasons, but the high barrel rate and hard contact have remained prevalent each and every season. He's going to miss time, but that trip to the IL is more than baked into his cost. His 162-game pace over the last four seasons would see him hit 39 home runs, steal 15 bases, and notch 86 RBI. The talent and tools are there, and he may only need 100 games to hit 25 home runs and steal 10 bases, which makes him an intriguing pick outside the top 200 overall. The risk is sky high, but the potential reward is even higher.

Byron Buxton went 2-for-5 with a double and a solo home run in a loss to the Braves on Sunday

Buxton doubled off starter Grant Holmes and then later launched a 434-foot home run that left the bat at 109.5 mph off reliever Enyel De Los Santos. The 31-year-old now has four home runs and 10 RBI on the season to go with a .244/.277/.474 slash line. It’s not setting the world on fire, but Buxton now has 11 hits in his last seven games and might be starting to get hot.

Buxton is starting to swing the bat well, as he has picked up multiple hits in three of his last four games to see his average rise from .179 to .233 in the process. The 31-year-old has been known to be hot and cold — and unfortunately injured in between — and it appears he’s on the latter side right now. Take advantage.

Byron Buxton had a terrific night at the plate in Friday’s loss to the Tigers, going 1-for-4 with a solo homer, walk, three runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base.

Buxton worked Reese Olson for a leadoff walk to start the second inning then stole second base and raced around to score the game’s first run on an RBI single by Ty France. He then plated a run with a fielder’s choice in the fifth inning and scored on Edouard Julien’s RBI double. Buxton also clobbered a 394-foot (108.1 mph EV) solo shot off of Beau Brieske in the seventh that pulled the Twins to within a run at 6-5. Even with the strong night though, he’s hitting just .178/.229/.356 with two homers, six RBI and three stolen bases on the season.
