2025 Player Outlook
Santana isn't quite the OBP force he used to be, but he's a veteran presence in the lineup who still has some pop in the later years of his career. At the end of the day, he's playing in his age-40 season, and was int he 79th percentile last season in both strikeout rate (16.7%) and walk rate (10.9%). The veteran has hit at least .238 with 23 home runs and four stolen bases in back-to-back seasons, and hitting in the heart of the Cleveland order should give him a good chance to tally 80+ RBI. More of a "floor" selection than "ceiling" this year.

Carlos Santana went 0-for-4 in a fifth straight game Wednesday against the Yankees.
This was better than some of the other 0-fors, as he did have two well-hit balls today. His ninth-inning flyout might have been a homer, rather than a flyout, had this game been played in New York, instead of Cleveland. Santana, who has started every game for the Guardians this season, is batting .204/.272/.209 in 103 plate appearances. With his strikeout rate up and his exit velocity numbers down, it seems like age might finally be taking a toll on the 39-year-old.
Carlos Santana hit a solo homer in a win Wednesday over the White Sox.
Carlos Santana homered and went 2-for-3 while driving in two runs in a loss to the Angels on Saturday.
It’s Santana’s first homer in his return season for the Guardians. The 38-year-old also drove in a run in the fifth on a fielder’s choice. Santana also drew a walk and scored another run, and has looked solid in his first week-plus with a .290 average and .795 OPS over 31 at-bats.
Guardians signed 1B Carlos Santana to a one-year, $12 million contract.
The deal is now official. Santana returns to Cleveland where his career began behind the dish back in 2010. The 38-year-old switch-hitter still makes plenty of contact and has plenty of pop left in his bat. His platoon splits remained some of the most extreme in baseball last year as he contrasted a robust .934 OPS against southpaws with a ghastly .676 OPS against right-handed pitching. The lack of significant power upside makes him a borderline top 30 option at the position, which limits his appeal to extremely deep mixed leagues. His return likely shifts former top prospect Kyle Manzardo to Cleveland’s full-time designated hitter role next season with a dash of Jhonkensy Noel (aka Big Christmas) thrown in as well.
