Seahawks selected Alabama QB Jalen Milroe with the No. 92 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

It’s the third quarterback selected ahead of Shedeur Sanders. A two-year starter in a pair of completely different offensive systems for the Crimson Tide, Milroe (6’2/217) enters the league with one of the more imposing dual-threat skill-sets in some time. The question is if his passing will actually translate to the next level. Although both more experienced and prolific than Anthony Richardson at the NCAA level, Milroe faces Richardson-esque questions about his throws. Alabama coach and play-caller Kalen DeBoer acknowledged as much by keeping the governor on his quarterback through the air. Milroe attempted more than 27 passes only two times all year, and he produced just five more passing scores (16) than interceptions (11). Milroe was a dynamo on the ground, rushing for 726 yards, a number that of course includes the negative yardage from his 23 sacks due to antiquated NCAA record keeping. Milroe punched in a ridiculous 32 rushing scores in two years as starter. His main 2024 passing improvement came in the pressure department, as he cut his pressure-to-sack rate from an unseemly 29 to 16.8. He is confident down the field. He simply has to improve at the finer points of passing, something that is difficult to do at the highest level. A special athlete with a strong arm, Milroe has the physical tools. Whether they can be harnessed through the air is anybody’s guess. This is now a very full QB room for Seattle, but they’ll give him a chance to develop into a potential starter.

Rams selected Michigan EDGE Josaiah Stewart with the No. 90 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

A two-time All-Sun Belt performer in 2021 and 2022, Stewart transferred to Michigan in 2023 recording 8.5 TFLs and 5.5 sacks as a reserve.. Last year he earned Second Team All-Big Ten nod with 8.5 sacks, 13.0 TFL and a 92.3 pass rush grade that ranked second nationally to only Adbul Carter (92.4). Posted a dominant 27.7 percent overall win rate and was extremely productive when he would occasionally throw a bull rush at opponents, recording a lethal 26.3 percent pressure rate. His jaw dropping 42.4% win rate on true pass sets is one of the highest marks of the last half decade. Stubby at 6’1/249 with 31 7/8th” arms, but a feisty, tireless player who explodes into contact and is more than willing to bow up in run support. Uses his low center of gravity to get underneath blockers’ pads, coupling a fierce bull rush with the fast twitch athleticism to run the hoop. Aggressive, punishing play style and is unnaturally powerful for his size, going after 300+ pound tackles in run support when many players his size would try to dip around blocks. While Stewart has size limitations, his tough, frenetic play style should translate to a consistent passing down 3-4 outside linebacker role.

Alejandro Kirk delivered a two-run double in the top of the ninth to help the Blue Jays defeat the Yankees 4-2 on Friday.

Kirk’s double off Devin Williams gave the Jays a 3-2 lead in the ninth, and the pinch-runner employed in his place came around as an insurance run. The double was just Kirk’s fourth extra-base hit of the year, and it was responsible for his seventh and eighth runs batted in. He’s struggled to a .227/.263/.307 line in 80 plate appearances.

José Berríos turned in 5 1/3 scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Yankees on Friday.

The Jays took a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth to put Berríos in line for the win when he departed, but it disappeared in the seventh. The team did end up winning anyway to improve to 4-2 in Berríos’s outings this season. José himself, though, is just 1-1 with a 4.24 ERA. His next start will come against the Red Sox, which is also the team his lone win is against.

Jeff Hoffman worked a scoreless ninth against the Yankees for his sixth save Friday.

One of the league’s most dominant relievers to date, Hoffman has a 1.35 ERA and a 19/1 K/BB in 13 1/3 innings. He should be available to close again Saturday.

Carlos Carrasco shut out the Blue Jays for five innings in a no-decision Friday.

José Berríos matched Carrasco, so the game was scoreless when he departed. It’s the first time in 34 starts since July 6, 2023 that Carrasco has gone without allowing a run, and his ERA dropped to 5.26. He’ll make his next start Wednesday in Baltimore.
